What can I as an individual do?

Car-web

We know there are many who are aware of the problems that exist and also want to do what they can to make a change. What can I do as an individual with my own travel? Broadly speaking, it is about thoughtfully about what responsibility means and follow that line, but here is some advice on the way:

Planning your trip -
Study your destination and its culture in advance and select distributors, products and accommodation that are sustainable and responsible. Plan so that you are away a little longer and instead reduce the number of long distance trips and therefore your flying.
Getting there -
If possible, take your time and enjoy “slow travelling”. Choose to travel for example, by train or bus and enjoy the surroundings. Try different alternative transport modes to reduce your carbon emissions. Stay in responsible places that are owned locally and supporting local development. Try the local specialties and support local restaurants.
Getting around -
Discover foreign cultures and environments. Respect the culture and its standards. If you’re unsure about something, ask for advice. Think about how you dress and don’t litter.
When choosing activities, keep in mind the local aspect of it all and quality - select specialized, local guides and local transport. See and don’t touch no matter what others does, both guests and guides. Observe the animals at an appropriate distance. Binoculars and telephoto lens provides the best close-ups of the animals and allows you to monitor the animal's natural behavior. Never use flash!
Before you leave home -
Reflect on your experiences and what was best of the trip. What activities did you do and what consequences did it have on the environment and people? Buy only locally produced souvenirs and don’t buy products made from endangered species.
After the trip -
Tell your friends about your responsible holiday experience and give them tips. Report any illegal incidents that you experienced during the trip. Create your own travel policy for private travel in the future. Think also about what you can do to become a more responsible person in your everyday life, such as sorting your waste, recycle and support non-profit initiatives. Think globally and act locally!
