Fair Travel is no longer representing Discover Dominica

October 23, 2017 By Jeppe Leave a Comment

Fair Travel is no longer representing Discover Dominica

Due to the devastating impact of Hurricane Maria in the Caribbean back in September, Discover Dominica, through their representative in Germany, has decided to terminate the cooperation with immediate effect.

“It saddens me to see the devastation of Hurricane Maria and the effects of it on the beautiful island of Dominica. I can only hope that the island bounce back sooner than later as it needs its visitors, and the visitors needs Dominica. We’ve made some good progress in the short cooperation we’ve had so far and I certainly hope that this is only a momentary halt in our cooperation. Bless Dominica and its people.”

Jeppe Klockareson, Fair Travel

Although Fair Travel is no longer representing the destination of Dominica, you can still use the services of Wilderness Explorers to book your clients adventures in Dominica, for 2018.

Fair Travel represents Dominica in the Nordics

September 8, 2016 By Jeppe Leave a Comment

Fair Travel is to represent and market the destination of Dominica, the Nature Island, in the Nordic region!

Fair Travel has reached an agreement with Tropical Consult/Germany to represent and market Discover Dominica in the Nordic region, starting on the 1st September 2016. It is with excitement that Fair Travel dive into this challenge to represent a destination, and yet another place that we hold close to our heart.

“I had the pleasure to visit Dominica in December 2014 and experienced this wonderful place. It’s obvious that sustainability is high on the agenda in the development of tourism on the island. I was really touched by the hospitality and joint “community-feeling” that surrounded the island, where I didn’t just feel like another guest, but almost like I was part of the community. I was devastated to hear about the disaster that struck the island and area with Hurricane Erica in 2015 and it feels very natural to now help reestablish Dominica on the travelers map. It is a beutiful place with so much to offer in terms of both nature and culture.” – Jeppe Klockareson, Owner & Founder at Fair Travel

Dominica (pronounced Dom-in-EEK-a, and not to be confused with the Dominican Republic) is a haven for adventure travelers seeking a unique experience that includes: hiking and adventure, cultural events/festivals, diving and water sports, whale/dolphin watching and canyoning adventures. Two thirds of the island are covered by tropical rainforest and it’ was one of the first destinations benchmarked by Green Globe for ecotourism. Dominica has promoted sustainable tourism since the beginning and the island has been awarded as one of the 10 best ethical destinations for the 2nd time by Ethical Traveler. In Kalinago Territory, the northeast of the island, live the Kalinago – the indigenous people of Dominica.

The objectives are to increase the awareness level in the Nordic market with an increase in visitor numbers. We hope to organize press trips, attend road shows and expos, and a few other interesting things. Keep an eye out for Dominica!

Donation to Hurricane Erika Disaster Relief Fund

February 3, 2016 By Jeppe Leave a Comment

Donation to Hurricane Erika Disaster Relief Fund

“It feels only natural to make a donation to the community that showed such welcoming hospitality to myself and my girlfriend during our stay. We can only hope that it is of some help to them.”

Fair Travel offset all flights done within the business on an annual basis and for 2015 this means – 47 flights, covering a distance of 46,872 km, contributing with 16,670 kg of CO2. Although carbon offsetting isn’t a solution to the problem, Fair Travel decided to use the offsetting, for all these flights, with a donation of €385 to the Hurricane Erika Disaster Relief Fund for Victims of Petite Savanne in Dominica, run by Jungle Bay.

Jungle Bay in Dominica sustained catastrophic damage as a result of mudslides, and flooding from Hurricane Erika. The surrounding villages were significantly affected by this natural disaster. This unfortunate disaster has shattered the lives of all employees, but especially those from nearby village Petite Savanne. They now must restart their lives. In addition to having lost homes, all possessions, and family, they also have lost their livelihood due to Jungle Bay being completely destroyed.

Erika-Disaster-Relief-Fund-2Just over 10 years ago, Jungle Bay opened as a noble concept. At its core was a group of passionate hard working individuals who believed in the power of community. These individuals represented former banana farmers and construction workers, housewives, and inexperienced youth from nearby villages. With training and dedication, they have evolved to become a family of compassionate, professional individuals, united in the purpose to exceed international visitors expectations as evident in Jungle Bay’s numerous accolades. Around 100 families dedicated themselves to making Jungle Bay the leading Caribbean sustainable tourism model. “We call ourselves the Jungle Bay family” and live by the simple motto that “our job is to make every guest happy”.

“I had the pleasure to stay at Jungle Bay during a visit to Dominica in December 2014 and experience this wonderful place. I was really touched by the hospitality and joint “community-feeling” that surrounded the place, where I didn’t just feel like another guest, but almost like I was part of the community. There are very few sustainable tourism models that can be compared to this inspiring example. I was devastated to hear about the disaster that struck the island and area. It feels very natural to make a donation to the community that showed such welcoming hospitality to myself and my girlfriend during our stay. We can only hope that it is of some help to them.” – Jeppe Klockareson, Owner & Founder at Fair Travel
